CoDa is dedicated to the continued development of dance on the campus and in the community by fostering collaboration across artistic and academic disciplines. By integrating the foundational techniques of modern and ballet with contemporary and popular forms of movement, music, and multimedia, we create an environment for the creation and performance of original work by two faculty artistic directors, visiting artists, and students.  Our Spring 2016 concert features three new works created by directors Erica Dankmeyer and Janine Parker.  “If You’d Like to Come Along,” by Dankmeyer, is by turns giddy and dreamy, as the performers portray a variety of characters drifting in and out of city cafés, accompanied live by Lecturer in Music Tendai Muparutsa’s original songs for voice, guitar and percussion.  Parker has choreographed “beneath the linden tree,” a shifting landscape of emotions suggested by Gustav Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer cycle, echoing the varying moods of one man’s journey as he traverses the changing territory of his memory.  The music will be performed live by Dance Department pianist John Sauer and guest tenor, Dario Coletta.  “Lean,” a duet created by Dankmeyer for seniors Gabrielle DiBenedetto and Sierra McDonald explores both the independence and dependency that can exist between two people, set to music by Max Richter.
