Blakey Vermeule, Albert Guerard Professor in Literature and Chair of the Department of English at Stanford University, will give a talk entitled _Clever: Literary Travels in the Post-Freudian Unconscious_.
Blakey works on a wide, interdisciplinary array of subjects, including cognitive and evolutionary approaches to art, neuroaesthetics, philosophy and literature, British literature from 1660-1820, post-Colonial fiction, satire, and the history of the novel. She has written, among other works, The Party of Humanity: Writing Moral Psychology in Eighteenth-Century Britain (2000) and Action versus Contemplation: Why an Ancient Debate Still Matters (2018).–
