El Nogalar by Tanya Saracho and directed by Yasmin Ruvalcaba ’17, was inspired by Chekhov’s, The Cherry Orchard. The modern adaption takes place on the beautiful, but fading estate of Maite Galvan in Northen Mexico. The play explores how the drug war impacts this upper middle class family. The family matriarch, Maite and her daughters risk losing everything to the local cartel. Saracho looks at class divisions in Mexico, family relationships, and the corruptive influence of drug cartels, in this case the Maña.
