On November 24th, 2022, a fire broke out in a residential area in Ürümqi, China. As a result of the government’s strict lockdown policy, the residents, unable to escape, were trapped in the building. The lockdown resulted in the tragic death of ten civilians, with many seriously injured. This incident triggered widespread anger and grief all around the country, and soon evolved to massive gatherings and protests all around the world against China’s zero covid policy and censorship in general.

Please come stand in solidarity with people in China and in remembrance of the tragedy in Ürümqi. The event will take place on December 1st, at 7:00 pm, in front of Paresky Center. Please bring candles, flowers, and white A4 paper (as a symbol of silent protest against censorship).

Masks, sunglasses and hats are recommended for those who wish anonymity.
