Can a Finite Set of Tiles Generate a Countable Infinity of Tilings? by Lillian Bates ’23, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, April 10, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim.
Abstract: Have you ever wondered how the pleasing geometric designs in bathrooms cover the floor so perfectly? Or if there are multiple different ways these same tile shapes could be placed together to cover your floor? In this talk, we discuss mathematical tilings and then answer the question of whether a finite set of tiles can generate a countable infinity of tilings.
