Presented by the Theatre Department

Moderated by Shayok Misha Chowdhury, Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre

As the kickoff to our production season and to our yearlong speaker series, “Performative Ethics: Embodied Representation in the Commons,” we invite all to a lively evening of conversation between playwright Aleshea Harris and director Shayok Misha Chowdhury. How are contemporary Black artists subverting and re-visioning perceptions and performances of Blackness? How do artists of color navigate the burden of representation without self-censorship? How do we use creative practice to author our own worlds?

This fall, Harris and Chowdhury will be collaborating on a production of her play BEAST THING, opening in early November. We welcome all students to audition for BEAST THING. Students of color are encouraged to audition.  Auditions will take place on SEPTEMBER 8th. Please check the Theatre Department website for details at theatre.williams.edu.
