Berkshire Symphony Student Soloist Gala

The Williams College Department of Music  presents the Berkshire Symphony in concert on Friday, April 21 at 8 p.m. There is a pre-concert talk with conductor Ronald Feldman and student soloists before the concert at 7:15 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall, adjacent to the main venue. Both of these events are free and open to the public.

The Student Soloists concert features performances by winners of the 2017 Berkshire Symphony Soloist Competition. At the competition in February judges chose four outstanding Williams College student musicians to perform in the upcoming concert. Harpist Anna DeLoi ’18 performs the Allegro moderato from Reinhold Glière’s Concerto for Harp and Orchestra in Eb Major, op. 74. Joyce Lee ’17, piano, plays the Allegro ma non-troppo movement from Camille Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, op. 22. Flutist Tiffany Sun ’18 interprets Jacques Ibert’s Flute Concerto – Allegro scherzando. Vocalist Harold Theurer ’17, baritone, sings an aria by Mozart, “Hai già vinta la causa,” from Marriage of Figaro.

In the second half of the concert the Berkshire Symphony presents Coriolan Overture by Beethoven, conducted by Leonard Bopp ‘19. Mr. Feldman steps again to the podium and brings the season to a finale with Igor Stravinsky’s fantastical Russian fairytale, Firebird Suite.

Conductor Ronald Feldman is twice the winner of the American Symphony League’s ASCAP Award for Adventuresome Programming of Contemporary Music. He has achieved critical acclaim for his work as conductor and cellist.
