AJ Lewis (Grinnell College) will deliver a lecture Monday, October 1, at 4:30, called “Disappearing the Police Station: Magic, Madness, and Trans Liberation in the Long 1970s.” Abram J. Lewis is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies at Grinnell College and prior to that, was a postdoctoral fellow in the Sexualities Project at Northwestern University. His forthcoming manuscript, The Falling Dream: Unreason and Enchantment in the Gay Liberation Movement examines queer activist challenges to secularism and reason at the end of the social movement era. The book explores how experiments with spells, paranormal powers, psychedelics, and other nonrational states became resources for creating new kinds of political thought and action during the early onset of neoliberalism.
