Abigail Soloway ‘18 began playing violin at age four and has been a lover of music ever since. At Williams, she has studied violin under Ms. Muneko Otani and Ms. Joana Genova and is a double major in music and psychology. In high school, she studied violin at Mannes College for Music Preparatory Program in New York City under Dr. Stephan Tieszen and attended the Hopkins School in New Haven, CT. At Williams, Abigail performs with the Berkshire Symphony and a variety of smaller ensembles. An active chamber musician, she has performed for seven summers at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, and has also been on faculty at Elm City Chamberfest and Chamber Music Central, both in Connecticut, and had her Italian debut in 2017 at the InterHarmony Music Festival in Acqui Terme, IT. Abigail is committed to the performance of new music, and has appeared multiple times with the IOTA Ensemble as a part of Williams College’s I/O new music festival. As a conductor, Abigail has performed with the Berkshire Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Williams, the Williams College Opera Workshop, the IOTA Ensemble, the Williams College Student Symphony, and the Regina Opera Company in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to all of her performance pursuits, Abigail is the teaching assistant for various music and psychology courses, a peer tutor, a member of the Williams College Guild of Bell Ringers, and a research assistant in a developmental psychology lab. Finally, Abigail is dedicated to arts outreach and education. As a part of Williams College’s Ephs Out Loud outreach program, she has taught music at several public schools in the greater Berkshire area, as well as creating children’s programming for the Fresh Grass Festival at Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA. In the coming school year, Abigail will be teaching instrumental music at The Fessenden School, an independent school in Newton, MA.
