A workshop of Webster's "The Duchess of Malfi"

What do you get when you cross the average lives of Williams College students with the debauchery and tackiness of Webster’s macabre tragedy about a defiant duchess and her two boorish, over-controlling brothers? Something close to the totally uninhibited pop art and punk scene of 1970s New York and L.A., perhaps? Ground-breaking conceptual artist and Berlin-based director David Levine (Bauerntheatre, The Hopeful, Venice Saved: A Seminar), who won an Obie Award in 2013 for his performance event Habit (seen at Mass MoCA in 2012), will initiate another of one of his signature works of theatre—part sociological experiment, part workshop, part studio installation—based this time on the grotesque world
of Webster’s Duchess and its links to our own period
of garish cultural and artistic excess.
