A Sketch of Mordell’s Theorem by Jeffrey Pearson ’20, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, November 11, 1 – 1:45 pm, Stetson Court Classroom 110
Abstract: In this talk, I will be discussing elliptic curves and their importance in number theory, more specifically their application in the proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem when we consider the rational points on an elliptic curve. I will be discussing the remarkable group structure of this set, that will culminate in proving Mordell’s famous theorem that the set of all rational points on an elliptic curve are finitely generated.
