The Williams Gospel Choir celebrates a love of gospel music with the entire community. For over thirty years people of all faiths have been invited to join the Gospel Choir to celebrate the tradition and move ahead into a future of joyous song. All are invited to Way Maker featuring the choir and talented collaborating musicians.

The Williams Gospel Choir continues to be a force that uplifts and empowers students and community members alike with their powerful and soulful voices. Its members also continue to consider the historic significance of gospel and the special role it continues to play in the lives of people from all over the world.

For new listeners, a spokesperson for the choir offers an apt description and mission statement of the Williams Gospel Choir: “We sing to lift people up, to inspire them, and to touch them with our music in ways that genres apart from Gospel can’t. We are open to all audiences and hope to encourage people to allow music to become a healing and divine part of their lives…To us, singing gives hope and strength and we hope that our audiences can experience these same feats through listening.”

The Gospel Choir is co-directed this year by Philemon Abel ‘19, Abigail Barrett ‘21, and Sean Ninsing ‘19, and is advised by Avery Sharpe, Artist Associate and Co-director of Small Jazz Ensembles with the department of music.
