In this concert, titled Renewal, the Williams College Wind Ensemble, directed by Brian Messier, offers music that explores different types of renewal:  personal, emotional, and spiritual. Joining the ensemble is the Zambezi Marimba Band and its director Tendai Muparutsa, who helps launch the evening with a performance of a traditional work, Todzungaira. The concert continues with works by living composers: Chris Pilsner’s Dum Spiro Spero (while I breathe, I hope), and Viet Cuong’s, which is divided into three movements: Hydro, Wind, and Solar. Percussionists Matthew Gold, Dustin Patrick, Jay Sager, and Thomas Wilson are featured.

The second half opens with Day Dreams by Dana Wilson, Lake Superior Suite by Cait Nishimura, and finally Carl Holmquist’s emphatic Play!
